ASBMR has created the following award opportunities that provide financial support to attend the ASBMR 2026 Annual Meeting, along with other professional benefits. Applications for this year's awards are now closed.
Phoebe Leboy Professional Development Award
Established in 2012, the Phoebe Leboy Professional Development Award is named in honor of the legacy and contributions of Dr. Phoebe Leboy. Dr. Leboy was a longstanding ASBMR member who tirelessly championed ASBMR programs and initiatives, including her lifelong dedication to mentoring young investigators. She carried out several important studies on the inequities faced by women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and made it her mission to see these barriers removed. The award amount includes up to $2,000 USD to support travel costs to attend the Annual Meeting plus Annual Meeting registration. If awarded the Phoebe Leboy Award, the awardee commits to submitting an abstract to the 2026 ASBMR Annual Meeting and attending the meeting from October 9-12, 2026, in Boston, MA, USA.

Betsy Love McClung, RN, MN, Travel Grant
The Betsy Love McClung, RN, MN, Travel Grant was established in 2016 by the ASBMR Fund for Research and Education to honor the memory of Betsy Love McClung, RN, MN, for her role in supporting the development of nurses and allied health professionals caring for patients with osteoporosis. The travel grant program will offer up to two grants of $1,500 USD each to an ASBMR member or non-member, who has submitted a short grant application. The goal of the grant is to allow the award recipient to continue their professional development in the field of osteoporosis and is open to nurses, nursing students, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, technicians, and therapists involved in the care of patients with metabolic bone diseases by providing travel funds to attend the ASBMR Annual Meeting.

Underrepresented Minority (URM) Mentorship Awards
The URM Mentorship Awards Program is designed to expand mentorship, networking, and professional visibility for individuals from underrepresented minority groups within the bone, mineral, and musculoskeletal research community. Through this program, ASBMR seeks to foster meaningful connections, support career development, and enhance representation at the ASBMR Annual Meeting. Selected awardees will receive $1,000 USD to help offset travel-related expenses for attending the Annual Meeting, along with personalized, one-on-one mentorship from an ASBMR senior investigator. This dedicated support provides award recipients with valuable guidance, scientific insight, and expanded engagement opportunities during the meeting and beyond.

ASBMR Young Investigator Awards
The ASBMR Young Investigator Award recognizes young investigator members who submit top-ranking abstracts to the ASBMR Annual Meeting. Award recipients will receive a $1,000 honorarium and will be presented with a plaque at the Annual Meeting. Of the $1000 honorarium, $500 is intended to support travel to the Annual Meeting, and the rest can be used at the discretion of the recipient. Individuals who have previously received a Young Investigator Award to an ASBMR Meeting are no longer eligible for the award. In addition, eligible applicants must:
- Be an ASBMR member paid through the end of 2026
- Be the presenting author of the abstract submitted
- Be a student/trainee or within five years of completion of a PhD, MD, residency training, or equivalent*
- Have not received any other ASBMR-funded travel or young investigator support for the current year's Annual Meeting
ASBMR Felix Bronner Young Investigator Award
The ASBMR Felix Bronner Young Investigator Award recognizes the highest-ranking bone-focused abstract from a young investigator. This award was established in honor of Felix Bronner, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, BioStructure and Function at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Award recipients will receive a $1,000 honorarium and a plaque. Individuals who have previously received the Felix Bronner Young Investigator Award are no longer eligible for the award. In addition, eligible applicants must:
- Be an ASBMR member paid through the end of 2026
- Be the presenting author of the abstract submitted
- Be a student/trainee or within five years of completion of a PhD, MD, residency training, or equivalent*
- Have not received any other ASBMR-funded travel or young investigator support for the current year's Annual Meeting
ASBMR President's Award
The ASBMR President's Award is given to the highest-ranking abstract submitted by a young investigator. Award recipients will receive a $1,500 honorarium and a plaque presented at the ASBMR Annual Meeting. Nominations are not accepted. The members of the Program Committee select the award winner based only on the scientific merit of the abstract. Individuals who have previously received the President's Award are no longer eligible for the award. In addition, eligible applicants must:
- Be an ASBMR member paid through the end of 2026
- Be the presenting author of the abstract submitted
- Be a student/trainee or within five years of completion of a PhD, MD, residency training, or equivalent*
- Have not received any other ASBMR-funded travel or young investigator support for the current year's Annual Meeting
If an individual selected to receive a Young Investigator Award does not present his or her abstract at the meeting, or is found to have not fulfilled eligibility criteria, the award will be cancelled and/or forfeited.
*The five years of eligibility are defined to extend from the end of the calendar year of the date of graduation or, if applicable, of completion of residency training or clinical subspecialty fellowship training, to the submission deadline date. Clinical subspecialty fellowship training is considered to end no later than the point at which the individual becomes board eligible. To petition for an extension of eligibility, please contact the ASBMR prior to the abstract submission deadline.

ASBMR Underrepresented Minority Mentorship Awards
ASBMR Underrepresented Minority (URM) Mentorship Awards will be provided to 10 selected applicants from underrepresented groups of undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early career faculty and clinicians (within five years of obtaining a PhD or MD) to attend the ASBMR Annual Meeting. $1,000 USD in funding will help to offset expenses associated with traveling to the ASBMR Annual Meeting including meeting registration, housing, meals, transportation, and more. Disbursement of the travel funds will conform to the ASBMR travel policy.
Prior to the ASBMR Annual Meeting, awardees will be matched with a senior member of the ASBMR who will provide one-on-one mentorship. Mentors will agree to attend the mentees abstract presentation (either oral or poster), meet one-on-one with the mentee at least one time during the conference, and attend the Awards Reception with the mentee. During the Awards Reception, both will receive a certificate for the award.
Eligible applicants must:
- Be an ASBMR member paid through the end of 2026
- Be the presenting author of the abstract submitted
- Be a student/trainee or within five years of completion of a PhD, MD, residency training or equivalent
- Have not received any other ASBMR-funded travel or young investigator support for the current year's Annual Meeting
- Self-identify with one of the following race/ethnicities, according to *NIH’s definition of under-represented minorities: Black/African American, Hispanics or Latino, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and other Pacific Islander

ASBMR Most Outstanding Abstract Awards
The ASBMR Most Outstanding Abstract Awards are given to the lead investigators of the highest scored basic, clinical and translational abstracts submitted for presentation at the ASBMR Annual Meeting. The award includes a $1,500 honorarium and a plaque which is presented at the ASBMR Awards Reception held during the Annual Meeting. Nominations are not accepted. The members of the Program Committee select the award winner based only on the scientific merit of the abstract. All abstracts are scored using a "blind-review system" as described in detail in the ASBMR Abstracts book. One award is given per year.
